Joining the Barbershop Golf Society is a great way to enjoy golf the way it should be, relaxed, social, and well organised. Being part of a society gives you regular golf without the pressure of competitions every week, while still enjoying a bit of friendly rivalry and good craic. You’ll get the chance to play a variety of courses, meet like-minded golfers, and build real friendships both on and off the fairway. With the society launching in March 2026 and numbers already building, getting involved early means you help shape the group from the start and become part of something that’s about more than just golf.

Here’s how it all started.

Three years ago, Barry, Pete and myself began meeting up once a month to play different golf courses. A year later, Connor M joined us, turning it into a regular monthly four-ball.

It went really well, and one day in the barbershop, JT mentioned that he would love to get back into golf after playing at Greenisland as a junior, but not having played for many years.

After JT started playing again, he and I managed to get a few games in together. From there, we came up with the idea of starting a golf society, especially as so many of our clients also play golf.

But it was never just about the golf. The idea was also to create something positive for people’s mental health, a reason to get out, meet others, enjoy fresh air, have a laugh, and take a break from the pressures of everyday life.

So, in March 2026, the High Handicap Society was born. What started as a small idea quickly grew into something open to everyone, whether you’re a high handicapper, a returning player, or just someone who enjoys a good day out on the course.
